THE ART AND SCIENCE OF THE MIND
CURIOUS ABOUT THE MEANING OF THE WORD: HERMETICS?
Hermetic teachings come from Hermes Trismegistus, who was known to the ancient Egyptians as “The Great Great” or “Master of Masters”. He was also known as “the scribe of the gods” and “the Great Central Sun of Occultism”. Quite a weighty resume, don’t you think? It sounds like he might have had some wisdom or knowledge that is worth pursuing!
In reality, the study of Hermetic teachings, aims to hand the student a “master key” with which they can open many inner doors (of his/her ultimate potential!) in the physical, outer world.
It is said that all the fundamental and basic esoteric teachings, including the most ancient teachings of India, have their roots in the original Hermetic Teachings. These teachings were traditionally handed down in an oral tradition, and therefore, many advanced occultists went from India to Egypt to learn from the man himself. Here, he reconciled everyone’s divergent views to establish the Secret Doctrine. To this day still, the word hermetic is often used in referring to something that is secret or sealed.
At the root of all religions and spiritual teachings there is the same seed: this seed comes from the Great Hermes! This ‘Seed-Truth’ has blossomed into many different strange forms in different religious and spiritual teachings but… the original truths have been kept intact in their original purity by a few in each age and passed down in the Seven Ancient Mystery Schools! This is why we study Hermetics!
Through the study of Hermetics we are able to reconcile the teachings of religions & spiritual teachings, and find the core truths that runs through them all!
All of this provides us clarity about:
- How the Mind works (yeah, how it really works)
- The fundamental truths about how the Universe & Life works (yip, the manual with the highlighted key notes)
- Life (why are we here?)
- Relationships (how you relate to self and others)
- The universe (what is the bigger picture of all of this?)
- You (as human being and your unlimited potential)
- Manifestation (how to create anything)
But is Hermetics an outdated philosophy, irrelevant to today’s modern life?
Absolutely not! It’s the “Master Key”, pure and relevant through all times.
Over the centuries, there have always been a few who knew there was something more to this life and the information they’ve been presented with. They were brave with a deep desire to find these hidden teachings and to pursue their depths! They built a foundation of wisdom from these teachings, kept sacred until humanity was ready to apply these teachings in everyday life to receive the greatest fruits. And yet still, these teachings are handed down from mouth to ear, and only to those who are truly seeking.
Hermeticists (those who studied Hermetics) were the original alchemists, astrologers and psychologists of society. Hermes was the originator of these schools of thought. Eventually, astrology morphed into modern astronomy, alchemy into chemistry and mystic psychology into modern psychology as we know it today.
It would be a grave mistake to believe that ancient scholars were ignorant of the information we possess in modern day academia. To this day still, few understand the true worth of these ancient teachings and it’s timeless application to the human experience.
But where would you find access to such a sacred, secret learning environment? There is the wise saying:
“When the ears of the student are ready to hear, then cometh the lips to fill them with wisdom.”
This is not true anywhere more than when you enter the doors of an authentic, ancient mystery school such as the Modern Mystery School.
The exciting thing is this – seeking members of the public can now (for the first time in history) take their future in their own hands, enrol in Hermetics classes and study these teachings for their own evolution and benefit! (And yet even on our friend Google, only true seekers find us!)
Hermetic teachings also mention that “the lips of Wisdom are closed, except to the ears of Understanding”. If you are reading this article and feeling something deep stir inside of you, your ears are ready for the next, deeper level of understanding.
The Possibility of Transformation …
One of the beautiful things about these teachings is that they transcend simply understanding the philosophy of the mind. It’s in the doing and the embodiment of these principles – in the application – that we learn and grow. Through these teachings, our whole lives become the teaching ground, building blocks upon which you create your new life – the life of your dreams!
