What is joy and why is it important?
I had a very happy home but nobody ever defined joy. Nobody ever mentioned to me or taught me the value of having joy every day in my life.
I had moved to the US and I was on this desperate mission within, really to find the joy in life. The joyful life: to be lived IN joy and OF joy and to SHARE joy. If I had not found the Mystery School and embarked on the journey of being an initiate and progressed on the initiatory path, I would have missed that and been that sad individual who at the end of my life would be wondering, ok I have a nice house, no mortgage, a collection of cars, a great career but I have never experienced the inner state of joy.
So, I am very passionate to share the why. Because unless you are living in joy, you are not really living. You are in survival and checking off the boxes (which I did). But I had no sensation or feeling of being in joy or enjoying life and that creates the sadness. The sadness then wants you to feel happy because the opposite of sadness is to be happy. That made me buy things I didn’t want and overeat because I was trying to feel better.
But that is not for the long term, only for the moment. Joy is from within. Joy does not have attachments from outside of you. It is a state that you create for yourself. As an initiate walking on the path, we are doing it to live the good life, and to understand the mysteries of life but to do that we have to understand the foundation of joy.
The Hermetic Joy Class is a foundational class for everyone. Unless you understand the foundation of joy, you cannot anchor it in your day to day life and sustain it. You are on the journey so you can live a joyful life, share your joy with others and leave the frequency of peace, love and joy flowing when you leave the world – all of us want to do that.

Why is joy important to my progression?
I was confusing happiness with joy. Happiness is a feeling and while there is nothing wrong with feeling happy, it is not a state of being. It is a feeling or an emotion, they ebb and flow, they change but joy is a state of being that can be retained even as your feelings change. A big key is the realisation that I was not just a victim of what was happening around me or to me, I had the power to shift and be in a state of joy. That was very empowering.

Why is joy important from an astrological standpoint?
Astrologically, underneath the structures of what is good for us and what is not good for us, there is a lot of joy there and in following that, the Hermetic mind is extremely joyful. The thing about joy is that it takes us above the “meh” of life. With joy you can have the highest achievements and also deal with the biggest challenges and face your biggest fears.
Acquiring the Hermetic mind means that you can experience regular life where your car is going to break down, where people you love are going to pass; there’s still going to be loss and all sorts of (seemingly negative) things but they don’t destroy your life. There’s still appreciation and goodness, there’s still wonder and good fortune and all of what you want is still possible.
The concept of joy is built and interwoven not only into Hermetics but is also hidden within your astrology chart.
If you are in a place where you are not experiencing joy, the only thing I really want to encourage you to look at is – YOU. You can be both a giver and a receiver of benevolence and if that is out of balance, that is going to affect your level of joy and that most likely you are a bigger receiver of benevolence than you are a giver and so, if you have been feeling that emptiness and a lack of joy and a lack of appreciation for your life, I am going to tell you to give your heart to other people and watch what happens.
