Law of Attraction – Demystifying LOA

What is the Law of Attraction?

Many would no doubt have heard of the Law of Attraction. It is a phrase that has gone pretty mainstream and is widely quoted by influencers on social media, life coaches and some spiritual teachers.

In a nutshell, the Law of Attraction or LOA is premised on the belief that “like attracts like”. In other words, that positive or negative thoughts respectively bring positive or negative experiences to people’s lives. If you think positively, positive things will happen to you, while the converse happens when you think negatively.

While LOA in the form that has become popular nowadays has a huge following, it has also attracted its fair share of detractors who call it pseudo-science. Some have also branded it as “victim blaming”.

Given that everything is made up of energy, it does follow that having a positive mental attitude can help us out of a rut and bring better things into our life. For example, it always seems easier to get a new job when you are already in a job. To that extent, thinking positively sets the ball rolling and kickstarts the momentum.

However, is this concept of LOA enough to bring about metamorphosis or transformation?

How do thoughts become things?

While everything around us is made up of energy, it is also important to remember that we live in the physical. So, while thoughts are a great start, they cannot be the only thing we do. Thoughts unaccompanied by action remain but daydreams. This is perhaps the part that LOA in the mainstream has not talked about enough.

In line with the hermetic tradition of King Salomon through the Modern Mystery School, manifestation is a four stage process. It starts with an idea, followed by thought, then a plan and finally takes the necessary action to bring that idea into physical reality.

So for those who think that LOA is simply about positive thoughts, I have some news for you. Positive thoughts are only a starting point. They will only help you manifest things you want into the physical if you can follow through with a plan of action and then take the actions required.

Visualise all you like. It is part of the creative process – the wonderful spark that makes us human. It is through our imagination that we come up with ideas. But, if we remain simply in the thought phase, we will remain there. Nothing in the physical will happen. So while the thoughts of happy things may make us feel good for a while, nothing will change in reality unless it is accompanied by the hard work of taking action.

As Ipssimus Dave Lanyon of the Modern Mystery School explains, we are not inherently worthy of all good things, any amount of money, all the gifts of the universe and all understanding just because we are humans, have blood and a heart and exist. We have to put in effort and be prepared AKA “worthy”, so that we are available to receive all these benefits. It is spiritually and psychologically immature to think that you have the inherent worthiness to receive without putting in the hard work to be prepared and ready to receive.

A mature person realises that you put in effort or you don’t, and that makes you prepared AKA “worthy” to be available to receive all these things. Are you prepared? Have you prepared to receive these good benefits, to get whatever these good things are, whatever you are looking for? If you haven’t, then you are not worthy, and that’s OK, that’s kinda normal, but it also gives you an indicator of where you need to improve your life.”

In the mainstream, many adherents of LOA do somehow believe that they can get whatever it is they want just by thinking good thoughts. While good thoughts are an important first step, it is incomplete without the hard work that is also required to bring what you desire to fruition.

Reality versus Thoughts

Ipssisimus Dave Lanyon of the Modern Mystery School described reality as that which is not malleable by thought and cannot be replaced; “If I can change something with a thought, it was never real. If I can just sort of think differently, and that changes my reality, then you are not really dealing with reality; you were always dealing with an illusion”. In explaining further, he used the example of a brick wall, saying that he cannot walk through a brick wall no matter how hard he tries because the brick wall does not care about his feelings. The wall does not care about his perception of it. It is simply there, and anyone walking to it will hit it.

The rest, however, is an illusion and so we can play with it and create with it what it is that we truly want.

But we first have to be able to tell the difference between reality and illusion – something that LOA in the mainstream does not really go into.

Our inherent ability to create what we truly want

As humans, we all have the inherent ability to create what it is that we truly want. This power is what LOA taps into. However, having the inherent ability to create does not equate to being inherently worthy to receive. Let’s not confuse the two. As talked about above, worthiness comes from putting in the requisite efforts and being prepared. So, while we all have the power to manifest, we still have to put in the work.

What is the Work?

This is a question that begs a whole slew of other questions. What do you truly want? Who are you? What is your purpose?

Without knowing yourself, how do you know what it is you truly want? And, if you do not know what it is you truly want, how can you manifest it?

Most people do not get what they want because they do not know what they want. And therein lies the biggest work of all – Know Thyself.

If you know yourself, many things will become so much clearer. You will know where you need healing, what your purpose is and the work that is required to fulfil that purpose. You will also take ownership of your own choices and decisions. You will be empowered to be the King and Queen of your own life. Who am I? What do I want? How do I get what I want?

How do I know myself?

With the distractions of the world, it isn’t always easy to connect with your higher self or your true essence. Information is flying at us left, right and centre while a million people with a million opinions are all assaulting your senses. How do you make that direct connection with your divine self?

In the ancient mystery schools, there is something called the path – a path that has been walked by many before us. Indeed, all the great masters have walked it, and it works!

That path is designed to bring us back to our true selves, and it begins with something called a Life Activation.

What is a Life Activation?

Life Activation is not your usual healing session. While it does bring about a great healing, it does something a lot more sacred. The Life Activation session activates a dormant part of you that reconnects you to your divine blueprint. It brings immense light into your energy structure and reawakens you to your divine essence.

While everyone experiences it differently, the clarity that it brings is palpable. Old stuck patterns of behaviour or negative thought spirals get released. Obstacles that once clouded your judgment get lifted – akin to finally wearing the right pair of glasses where your surroundings are suddenly razor sharp.

It is the beginning of the journey to truly knowing who you are and what you want.

Empower Thyself Class and Initiation

Just like Rome was not built overnight, the journey to knowing yourself will not happen instantaneously. Like anything else, you will have to put in the effort and the work. To once more quote Ipssimus Dave: “You do not just Know Thyself one day. It takes concentrated work and effort. The whole nature of the world and universe is to direct you away from that understanding, to distract you. Knowing and understanding who you are takes courage and commitment.”

In the path, what follows a Life Activation would be the Empower Thyself Class and Initiation, which will hand down the tools for you to work with your own energy structure. The Initiation at the end of it will also bring down more light and anchor it into your energy structure.

What is Initiation?

In the ancient mystery school traditions, to ‘initiate’ means to begin a process – to start something. Initiation sets forces in motion for your metamorphosis, transformation, growth and spiritual journey. Initiation serves to ground the spiritual energies we are wielding, such as light, power and protection. These forces become anchored into our energy field so that we can readily access these energies through our mental, emotional and physical capacities to support us in our daily life choices, tasks and actions.

The handing down of knowledge that prepares one for initiation creates a template for living an empowered life, opening up the potential to master ourselves and to create the life which our higher selves truly desire. The initiation then activates this knowledge with spiritual power to support us to be in alignment with our highest and best good, to live out our purpose here on earth.

Initiation advances and catalyses the process of knowing ourselves, exposing us to our own highest purpose and the potentialities available to you in our lives.

In a nutshell

The teachings about LOA in the mainstream are not wrong. However, they are incomplete. Things cannot be dreamt into reality just by positive thoughts. We have to put in the efforts to make ourselves worthy to receive.

In addition, how can we effectively manifest if we do not really know what we want?

In some ways, LOA puts the cart before the horse. After all, how can we ask for what we want if we do not truly know ourselves? And how can we manifest if we cannot separate reality from illusion?
