My experience with Viking Magick!
It is probably fair to say that the portrayal of Vikings in the mainstream is not always accurate. They are seen as a race that glorifies violence and dominance by some and yet by others, they are seen as a people who are resourceful leaders of their time but ultimately as a people who have long gone. The list of potential misrepresentations and misunderstandings goes on.
Coming from an Eastern culture, Viking lore did not feature very much in my upbringing. While I have heard of their of prowess and might on the battlefield, I knew very little beyond that. As such, when Sovereign Ipssisimus Dave Lanyon announced the Viking activation and Initiation, I approached it with an open heart and a desire to receive and learn.
Having received both the Viking Activation and the first Initiations (1-3), I have to say that this energy is quite unlike anything else I have experienced. While the energy was very strong, (unsurprising, given that the Vikings were fierce warriors), it was also extremely purifying, bringing about the energy of the righteous warrior, the defenders of what is just and what is right – the energy of the the warriors of light, so to speak.
I was never comfortable in conflict. I was in fact brought up to believe that any form of conflict is bad – that my role was to always be the peacemaker, to concede, and to accept things I did not want in order to “keep in the peace”. While peace is indeed of the light and something that we should all seek to embody, I had been conditioned to misunderstand peace.
True peace has to be one that embodies the Hermetic principle of “as within so without”. It is not about the repression of oneself in order to please the desires of others. Yes, sacrifice for the greater good has merit in discernment and wisdom but I had confused the shrinking of myself in order not to cause offence for peace. This has led to deep feelings of unworthiness and low self esteem in the name of “peace” – a gross misunderstanding.
Sometimes, one has to be willing to fight for peace. As Sovereign Ipssisimus Dave Lanyon once said: you should never want to fight for the sake of it, but you should be prepared to fight if needed. So when is a fight needed? This is the question that can only be answered through discernment and the path of “Know Thyself”.
In my case, it was a need to “un-know all that I thought I was” in order to truly “Know Thyself”. The Viking Activations peeled away many layers of who I thought I was and while it was and continues to be difficult, I also realise deep within myself that this is necessary and I need to draw into my inner warrior, which had lain dormant within me for many years, to face these layers of pain and misunderstanding.
I was born a warrior, but had allowed myself to be diminished in the name of a false understanding of peace. Now that this has been awakened, I have to nurture it, to keep going. So, when I saw that the Viking Initiation was offered in Toronto, I decided to travel there to receive it. I am still integrating the immensity of it all but yet, as I sit down to write this, I feel a swell of empowerment that I have not felt since I was a little kid.
The journey of the true warrior is not one of comparison, nor petty one-upmanship, nor the domination of others, it is one of standing in your own divinity, of showing up for yourself, of genuine self love and then serving from that place of purity.
While extremely painful for me on a personal level, it is also one where I have been forced to drop the masks and I realise that to serve truly from the heart, one cannot lie to oneself. I am deeply grateful to Sovereign Ipssisimus Dave because I caught a glimpse of all that he had to sacrifice and overcome to serve at the level that he does. It is also a reminder to all of us what we are all capable of if we dropped our pretences and confront the inner enemy, whatever that might be.
